How does it work without changing fonts?

These are not fonts but special Unicode characters that look like styled letters. That is why they keep their look when you paste them into apps that do not let you change the font.

Why do some letters look normal or show as boxes?

Not every device and app supports every special character, so some may appear as empty boxes. Turkish letters such as ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü have no fancy versions and stay normal.

Can I use fancy text for usernames?

Many platforms allow it in display names and bios, but usernames (handles) usually accept only plain letters, numbers and a few symbols.

Is fancy text accessible?

Screen readers may read these characters one by one or skip them, which makes the text hard to understand for blind users. Use it sparingly, for decoration, and keep important information in normal text.
