Turkish Character Converter

Wrote Turkish on a keyboard without Turkish letters? This tool restores ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü automatically, so “Turkce karakter” becomes “Türkçe karakter”. It can also do the opposite and strip Turkish letters for usernames, URLs and SMS.

Frequently asked questions

How does it know where to put the Turkish letters?

It uses the well-known statistical deasciifier by Deniz Yuret, which decides each letter from the surrounding letters. It was trained on a large amount of Turkish text and gets the vast majority of words right.

Is the result always correct?

Not always. Some words are spelled the same either way and depend on meaning, so read through the result before you send it, especially names and rare words.

Who is this tool for?

Anyone writing Turkish on a phone or computer without a Turkish keyboard, for example abroad or on a borrowed laptop, and anyone who receives Turkish text written that way.

Why would I remove Turkish letters?

Usernames, file names, web addresses and some old systems accept only plain Latin letters. Removing ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü also keeps SMS in the cheaper GSM alphabet; check it with the Word & Character Counter.
