Markdown editor

Write Markdown on the left and see the formatted result on the right as you type. The toolbar adds bold text, headings, lists, links, code and tables for you. Your draft is saved automatically in this browser, and you can download it as a .md file, export a clean, standalone HTML page or copy the HTML. Nothing is uploaded.

Your text stays on your device. Everything is processed in your browser.

How to use Markdown editor

  1. Type or paste Markdown in the editor. The preview updates as you write (on a phone, switch between the Write and Preview tabs).

Frequently asked questions

What is Markdown?

Markdown is a simple way to format plain text: **bold**, *italic*, # for headings, - for lists and [text](address) for links. It is used for README files, documentation, notes, forums and many blogging tools, and it stays readable even without formatting.

Which Markdown features are supported?

Standard CommonMark plus tables and strikethrough (~~text~~): headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, links, code blocks, horizontal rules and tables. Plain web addresses become links automatically. Raw HTML inside the Markdown is shown as text, not run, so the preview stays safe.

Why are images shown as links?

Images from other websites are not loaded, so that opening a document never contacts a third-party server (such images can be used for tracking). They appear as a link you can open yourself. Images embedded as data:image (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP) are shown normally.

Where is my draft saved?

Only in this browser (localStorage), on this device. It is restored when you come back, and it is never sent to us. Private windows or cleared browser data remove it, so download a .md file to keep a copy.

Can I turn my Markdown into a PDF or check its length?

Yes. Use the link under the editor to open the Markdown to PDF converter on our sister site Folidesk. To count words, characters and reading time in detail, paste the text into Word & Character Counter; to tidy JSON code blocks, use JSON formatter.
